Customer: An International Engine Manufacturer
Application: A 1/4” 100% solids heavy duty monolithic epoxy mortar matrix flooring system
- Quick, low-odor installation
- Seamless surface
- Impact and abrasion resistant
- Chemical resistant
- Restores deteriorated concrete
The engine facility operates over 1,000,000 sq. ft. of manufacturing facilities and needs to change designated work areas to meet the requirements of both their industry and clientele on an ongoing basis.
The challenge facing the installation team was the need to remain in operation throughout demolition and installation of the new flooring system, while promoting a safe work area for both the Cornerstone and auto manufacturer’s employees.
Cornerstone Solution and Process:
The Cornerstone installation team first removed the old flooring until the substrate could properly be prepared through mechanical preparation utilizing HEPA filtration. All excess dust, curing agents, and contaminants were removed so installation could proceed. The substrate was leveled to ensure an even distribution of the flooring system.
After the substrate was leveled, a polymer primer was spread before the mortar mix was applied with a screed box and troweled to a 1/4″ thickness. The system’s grout was added and immediately back rolled before the remaining aggregate was broadcast to reach the specified requirements for the manufacturing plant. A top coat was added to help guard against skid and abrasion incidents and add a level of seamless durability to this high-gloss, UV-stable finished urethane AutoFloor® system.
The finished Cornerstone AutoFloor® not only remedied the clients need for quick and clean installation that will meet all of their requirements, but provided a finished product that guards against deterioration from both natural and chemical agents. The flooring system is easy to clean and maintain and included UV stability and light reflection to save energy and maintenance expenses. This flooring system is over 20 years old and has had no service issues.
